Royal LePage Shelter Award Winner

Local Real Estate Agents Win Prestigious Award for their contribution to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and their Women's Shelter.

Dwight, Ontario March 9, 2010

Royal LePage Brokers from Dwight, Ontario, Jay Richardson and Stephen Leonard were honored last week at the celebration for Royal LePage agents in Toronto for their remarkable contribution to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and Muskoka Women's Advocacy Group.

The two-person team at Royal LePage Lakes of Muskoka Realty, Dwight Office, won the Shelter Award for Team of the Year in Ontario for 2009. They became involved with the Shelter Foundation in 2009, dubbing themselves "the little office that could" and setting a goal to fundraise for their local shelter by hosting a large community garage sale as part of the National Garage Sale for Shelter. The event in Dwight, which also took place at Royal LePage offices across Canada, was one of the best in the country. Jay and Stephen's idea to bring an antique fire truck and karaoke singers helped get the attention of the whole community - they had so much traffic at their sale that their front porch gave way. They also spread awareness about the issue of family violence and told others how to get involved. Their efforts demonstrate that it doesn't take a lot of people to make a big difference.

The distinguished and much sought-after award is presented yearly to agents who have made an outstanding or extraordinary contribution of time and effort to helping women and children living with abuse.

Royal LePage is the only Canadian real estate company with its own charity

The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has raised more than $10 million to support women and children living in shelters across Canada. Through agent commission contributions and the fundraising activities of the Royal LePage network, we are helping to provide a safe haven and new beginnings to more than 30,000 women and children each year. To break the cycle of violence, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation also supports long-term violence prevention and education programs. All funds raised by Royal LePage offices remain in their local community and because Royal LePage pays the costs of administration, 100% of all money and effort goes toward this important cause.

About the National Garage Sale for Shelter

The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation annually hosts the National Garage Sale for Shelter at Royal LePage offices across Canada - this year it will be held on Saturday, May 15th, 2010. This event brings together local residents, real estate agents and brokers for one day of fundraising through donating household items for a large community garage sale. All proceeds go to help local women shelters and grassroots innovative violence prevention and education programs for women and children in each province.
